Lactation consultation Home Visit 1hr 30mins
During a lactation consultation we will address several components to support your breastfeeding journey and address any challenges you may be facing.
A typical lactation consult will include;
Assessment: The lactation consultant will observe both the mother and baby, including observing a breastfeeding session to evaluate attachment, positioning, and milk transfer.
History Taking: Gathering information about your medical history, birth experience, breastfeeding history, and any concerns or challenges you are encountering.
Education: Providing information about breastfeeding techniques, positioning, milk supply, feeding cues, and strategies to overcome common breastfeeding issues.
Troubleshooting: Identifying and addressing any breastfeeding difficulties such as latch problems, nipple pain, low milk supply, engorgement, or mastitis.
Support: Offering emotional support and encouragement and acknowledging your efforts.
Development of a Plan: We will work together to develop a personalised breastfeeding plan tailored to you and your baby’s unique needs and circumstances.
Follow-Up: Scheduling follow-up appointments as needed to monitor progress, make adjustments to the breastfeeding plan, and provide ongoing support.
A lactation consultation is designed to empower you with the knowledge and skills you need to breastfeed successfully and to address any challenges that may arise along the way.
